Viper’s-buglosses ( Borage flower ) is one of the most important and useful medicinal plants that has unique healing properties. is an annual herb that reaches an average height of 0.6 meters and its stem has small thorns.

The leaves of the Viper’s-buglosses ( Borage flower ) are velvety and covered with rough fibers. For this reason, when taking the leaves of this plant in the hand, a mild sting is felt. This plant has bright purple flowers.

The most important chemical substance that is extracted from the flower extract of Viper’s-buglosses ( Borage flower ) is potassium nitrate, most of its properties and benefits are related to this substance.

Calendula is a popular and famous plant among people, and its unique properties are widely used in traditional medicine. From the past until now, Iranians have benefited from the unique benefits of this plant to calm the nerves by drying the petals and leaves of the Viper’s-buglosses ( Borage flower ) and using it as tea and syrup.

The nature of the Viper’s-buglosses ( Borage flower )

In traditional medicine, the nature of borage flower is warm and moist.

This plant is rich in antioxidants, flavonoid, anthocyanin, gamma linoleic acid, choline, B vitamins, vitamin C, magnesium, calcium, iron and potassium.

Method of Use

Borage flower is usually consumed as infused, boiled and brewed. In Iranian traditional medicine, the main medicinal parts of this plant are flowers and leaves, but roots and stems can also be used.

Herbal Tea

First, a suitable amount of the flowers of this plant is poured into a teapot and then a little boiling water is added to it. The best time to consume Viper’s-buglosses ( Borage flower ) is at least 10 to 15 minutes after inhaling.

Types of Viper’s-buglosses ( Borage flower )

  • Persian borage flower : Iranian borage flower can be found in roadster, Ramsar and Shaheswar heights. In these regions, the climate is mountainous and cold, and it rains intermittently during spring and summer. You can plant this borage flower outside the house from early to late spring when the soil warms up. The flowers of Persian borage are in the form of pomegranate flowers and are azure and purple in color.  Usually, the flowers of the Persian flower are bigger and bigger than the European flower.
  • European borage flower : According to the writings of Dioscorides and Theophrastus, the garden borage or the European borage is an important medicinal plant and has many healing properties. Planting and harvesting of European or garden borage is done by seeds and directly in the main fields. European borage flowers are round and small. European borage flowers are circular and small in azure color. European specimens usually have smaller flowers and their color tends to be more light blue.
